You’ve probably read about the legendary Eve Lom Cleanser ($50 – $135 for 1.7 oz – 6.7 oz). With a loyal following, it was named by Vogue magazine as “probably the best cleanser in the world”. This is a very bold claim, and as a beauty junkie, I just have to find out for myself.
This iconic cleanser is a multi-purpose facial cleansing balm that is formulated with four essential oils – chamomile, eucalyptus, hops, and clove. Along with a piece of finely woven cotton muslin cloth, it cleanses, tones, exfoliates, and improves the overall skin condition and circulation.
If you are looking for a quick and easy routine, then this is not for you. This holistic cleanser delivers a skin pampering experience and is meant for someone who enjoys a relaxing aromatherapy treatment as part of their skincare method. The entire process takes no more than a few minutes but is definitely not something you can rush.
To start off, apply a small scoop onto dry skin and massage in a circular motion until all those gunk and makeup melt away. Wet the muslin cloth with lukewarm water and hold it against your skin. Then use the warm cloth to remove everything on your face and neck (I usually do this three times to ensure that my skin is completely clean). As a last step, rinse the cloth in cool water and press it against your skin. The botanical formula will give you a clean, revitalized, and baby soft finish.
There are lots of criticism about the cleanser’s unpleasant smell. However, it doesn’t bother me at all, and I actually find the unique herbal scent quite lovely. It’s not overpowering and doesn’t linger on the skin. It’s simply a calming and earthy aroma that is very common in many spa brands. But if you dislike fragrances in skincare products, this may not appeal to you. Although not irritating to my eyes, the cleanser doesn’t feel too comfortable around the eye area, so I wouldn’t recommend applying it too close to the lash line.
The cleanser has a very thick and creamy texture but is extremely easy to spread. Once comes in contact with the skin, it instantly melts into an oil base and provides a luxury spa experience. The tiny and non-abrasive granules inside are gentle enough for even sensitive skin. Its container isn’t the most sanitary option so make sure to use it with clean hands or a spatula/Q-Tip.
This is a product that can’t be paralleled by others. Sure, I’ve used tons of great facial cleansers before, and if my holy grail is a perfect score of 100, this Eve Lom cleanser actually deserves 120 because it gives me clean, smooth, and hydrated skin. The Egyptian chamomile oil and cocoa cutter soothe and hydrate dry skin, and the clove oil’s antiseptic properties are great for oily or acne prone skin. This isn’t just a regular cleanser. Instead, it’s an all-in-one treatment that cares and conditions the skin. It’s a feeling that I’ve never experienced before, and my face has never been better.
If there is one thing that I dislike about this cleanser, it’s the horrendous and almost shocking ingredient list.
Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil), Peg-30 Lanolin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Aluminum Stearate, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Peg-75 Lanolin, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Leaf Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Cone Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Eugenol, Limonene.
For a mineral oil based product with not one but five parabens, it’s a shame that it charges so much.
It’s the least to say that my skin is loving this awesome cleanser. I like the fact that it easily removes all traces of makeup (even waterproof) and everything else. It also lightly exfoliates and instantly brightens my complexion. The feeling afterward can’t be described with words – it feels as if my pores can actually breathe. It’s that refreshing for the skin. Overall, I’m beyond satisfied with this product. I’m still somewhat offended by the unhealthy ingredients, but otherwise I don’t mind using it for a very long time.
