Do Eyelashes Grow Back? – 4 Proven Ways To Make Your Lashes Grow Faster

Small things can make such a big difference. It is true, especially when we talk about eyelashes.

Lovely to gaze at, and useful in shielding our eyes from dust and foreign debris. Eyelashes look more beautiful when dolled up. But the irony is that, by trying different products to make our lashes prettier, we might end up harming them.

Here is a brief rundown of the various causes why eyelashes fall and the proper approach to treating them.

😔 Why do eyelashes fall out?

Damage caused by harmful beauty habits.

  • Leaving cosmetic products in your eyes for too long, is a big NO, NO! This habit can lead to the impairment of your hair follicles.

In the extreme negative, you may develop a dermatological disorder called Madarosis. It denotes the fall of lashes due to the destruction of eyelash follicles.

  • Eyelash curler is another thing to watch out for because it can damage the fringe.

Aside from the chance of burning them, you might squeeze your skin when you get as close to the roots.

  • Using eyelash extensions may trigger allergic reactions. So, to keep your eyelashes safe, call an experienced aesthetician.

Improper application of eyelash extensions can cause permanent or temporary eyelashes to fall out. So, entrust this task to experts.

Eyelid inflammation or blepharitis.

There are two types of blepharitis: anterior and posterior.

Anterior blepharitis occurs outside the edge of the eyelid. This eyelid condition is due to the presence of staphylococcal bacteria on our face. On the other hand, posterior blepharitis concerns the inner edge that touches the eyeball. This condition is due to the irregular production of oil in the eyelids.

Blepharitis is not contagious. But you may experience very uncomfortable symptoms like itchiness, redness, and swelling.

Trichotillomania is a condition wherein a person pulls out hair in our body due to stress. This behavior often co-occurs with anxiety and depression. Studies show that repetitive pulling of the hair may indicate mental health issues. But this information is still in the process of validation.

Alopecia Areata.

Alopecia is an auto-immune disease attacking hair follicles. It is a disorder that makes hair fall quite obvious.

You may suffer clumps of hair loss on your scalp or your entire body. But when it occurs on the eyelashes, it will affect the follicles in the eyelids alone. There is still no cure for the disease, but growing your eyelashes back is only possible with repeated medical treatments.

Thyroid gland disorder.

Prolonged thyroid problems can cause eyelash loss. Hypothyroidism is a disorder that signifies the production of too little amount of thyroid hormone. On the contrary, hyperthyroidism refers to excessive production.

Our thyroid produces T3 and T4 hormones, while the pituitary gland releases TSH hormone which stimulates the production of these thyroid hormones. In case there is an imbalance in the production of these hormones, the body will show symptoms that include losing hair.

🧐Do eyelashes grow back?

Yes, eyelashes can grow back. However, this will depend on the reason why they fall off in the first place.

Here are the common conditions that can lead to losing your eyelashes, and the time frame to grow them back:

  • Burns – This can happen when you regularly use eyelash curlers. If your eyelashes get singed accidentally with hair follicles staying intact, you may experience them growing back in six (6) weeks.

But if the hair follicles were damaged, you’ll probably lose them forever.

  • Medication. Cancer patients go through a series of chemotherapy. More often than not, administered drugs may cause hair loss or alopecia.

Your body will determine how likely your eyelashes will fall and grow back. But eyelashes may only start growing back after the entire procedure.

  • Auto-Immune Diseases. Alopecia Areata is an auto-immune disease that can cause eyelash loss. With the flawed response of the immune system, you may end up destroying your healthy tissues.

The side effect of losing hair is curable, but hair regrowth will depend on the impact of the medications in each case.

  • Pulling out. Impulsive pulling of the eyelashes is a psychological condition called Trichotillomania.

A person’s constant urge to pull or tug their lashes is a psychological disorder. With the repeated hair pulling, the body starts to slow down hair regrowth.

The more constant this activity goes, the lesser the chance of growing your lashes back.

  • Thyroid imbalance. Excessive thyroid hormones (hyperthyroidism,) or its deficiency (hypothyroidism)

Thyroid hormonal imbalance doesn’t always lead to hair loss as when it is mild. But severe and prolonged thyroid imbalance may cause this concern. In most cases, the fall out of eyelashes is only temporary. You will need several months to regrow, but treatment is possible.

How long does it take for my eyelashes to grow?

Our eyelashes undergo three phases in its life cycle. These are anagen (the growth phase), catagen (transition or degradation phase,) and telogen (the resting phase).

Once the lashes fall out, a new lash will start in its anagen phase.

  1. Anagen. This phase may take about four to ten weeks. During this phase, our lashes will achieve its full length.
  2. Catagen. This marks the stoppage of growth. It is a period when the eyelashes are not yet ready to shed. It may run from two to three weeks.
  3. Telogen. This is the final stage of the eyelash cycle. It can last up to 3 months. At this point, the follicles are starting to prepare for the shed.

This allows continuity since a new lash will immediately grow in place of the one that falls out.

🎯 What can you do to help eyelashes grow back?

Eyelash mishap is heartbreaking, but there are easy ways you can help to prevent this upsetting experience. Here are some of the measures that avert eyelashes from falling out:

1. Choose your makeup products wisely, and use them properly.

Our eyelash follicles are prone to bacterial growth. So, when we expose them to chemicals from various makeup products, we are encouraging infections. Try switching to natural and organic makeup, or skincare alternatives.

2. Use natural serums to nourish your eyelashes.

Taking care of your eyelashes doesn’t mean you need to put a lot of products on your eyes. A few effective ones can do the work. An effective plant-based eyelash serum you must try to nourish your lash is Bioluma Eyelash Growth Serum. Since it is chemical-free, it is safe for your eyelash follicles. It is also hypoallergenic, so it will not trigger allergic reactions.

3. Be careful with your extensions and curlers.

Use oil-based cleanser in removing eyelash extensions. It may prevent tugging or pulling off your natural eyelashes. If you lose your eyelashes due to frequent pulling, most experts suggest the use of Latisse to encourage eyelash growth. Latisse is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as an effective hair loss medication. It can make the hair strands thicker, longer, fuller, and darker.

4. Take supplements or eat foods that can help improve your hair condition.

Studies show that vitamin H or B7, also known as Biotin, can reduce shedding, and promote the health of our eyelashes. Biotin supplements can help prevent and treat hair loss problems. However, a diet rich in biotin is much favored. Dietary sources of biotin include oysters, cooked whole eggs, cooked liver, sunflower seeds, roasted almonds, and sweet potato.

Our eyelashes can grow back. However, this is not true in all situations. Certain medical conditions may entail permanent hair loss.

For causes of eyelash fall out that may only be momentary, so long as the hair follicles can still recuperate and the damage is not severe, there will be growth.
The period for the lashes to grow back might differ based on the cause of the loss, but with regular treatment and proper medication, your eyelashes may eventually regenerate.

How To Achieve The Bitten Lips In 5 Minutes

If you follow beauty trends in Asia recently, you’ve probably been bombarded with bloggers (and everyone else) talking about the “Bitten Lips”. It’s nothing new but a revamped makeup look that took over many Asian countries in a storm. And it’s all thanks to the beautiful Korean actress Yoon Eun Hye (윤은혜) who sports her now famous “Bitten Lips” look in her on-air drama I Miss You (보고싶다).

And the craze certainly didn’t stop when people found out the brand behind her signature pink lips because the same colored lipstick is now sold out in most Shu Uemura counters. However, it’s extremely easy to achieve her sexy lips with a few simple and still widely available products.

Drew Barrymore Flower Beauty Balm BB Cream – Not Just Another Glorified Tinted Moisturizer

It doesn’t take a beauty fanatic to notice the recent influx of BB creams on the market. Walk into your local drugstores, randomly select a beauty brand, chances are you’ll find some items labeled with the term BB Cream. However, most of them are not the BB cream that you expect (or at least for some of us).  I’m a huge fan of BB creams and have been using them for the past few years. The upsetting reality is that most BB creams from Western brands are not really BB creams, which are suppose to provide flawless but natural skin finish. Personally, they seem more like glorified tinted moisturizers. I’m not saying that they are all horrible products, but a few brands sure look like that they just repackaged their regular tinted moisturizers because all their competitors are marketing BB creams.

Just when I’m about to lose faith in finding a BB cream that works for my skin, I spotted the Beauty Balm BB Cream from the newly launched Flower Cosmetics created by the lovely Drew Barrymore.
